The Pashupatinath Temple is a significant Hindu temple
located on the banks of the Bagmati River in Kathmandu, Nepal. It is considered
one of the most sacred shrines in the world, dedicated to Lord Shiva, and

The temple is said to have been built in the 5th century, but the current structure was erected in the 17th century by King Bhupatindra Malla. It is a pagoda-style temple with a golden roof and intricate woodcarvings. The temple complex spans an area of 264 hectares and includes 518 temples and shrines.

The temple is also the site of the annual Maha Shivaratri
festival, which is celebrated by Hindus all over the world. The festival is
held in honor of Lord Shiva and is a time for devotees to offer their prayers
and seek blessings. The festival attracts thousands of pilgrims to the temple,
who participate in various rituals and ceremonies.
The Pashupatinath Temple is also known for its unique tradition of "living goddesses" or "Kumaris." These are young girls who are believed to be the reincarnation of the Hindu goddess Taleju. The tradition dates back to the 17th century and continues to this day. The Kumaris are highly revered and are believed to possess divine powers. They are worshipped by devotees and play an important role in various religious ceremonies.
In addition to its religious significance, the Pashupatinath Temple is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is considered an important cultural and architectural landmark, representing the rich history and traditions of Nepal.
